Hair Extension Sins
While it is important to wash your extensions now and then to remove any product build up, they should not be washed too often. For tape extensions, we recommend washing 1-2 times a week and for clip ins, we would recommend washing every 1-2 months depending on wear. Over washing can cause the hair to become dry and brittle and cause damage to the hair. As well as this, it is important to use sulphate free shampoo and conditioner. Sulphates will damage the hair's follicle over time and as your extensions do not receive the same nourishment as your normal hair, this will cause dryness and damage the hair.
Like most human hair extensions, ZALA Hair can not be bleached or lightened. Our hair goes through a long dying process to achieve our gorgeous shades, therefore we never recommend bleaching or lightening your extensions as this may cause damage to the hair.
Like your own hair, excessive heat can cause damage to your hair follicles over time and we therefore ALWAYS recommend using a protectant to avoid any damage. This will ensure the extensions are protected from high temperatures when styling and will ensure your extensions stay as healthy as possible, for as long as possible!
It is important to brush your extensions from the bottom and move upwards in small sections. This will ensure there is no tugging or ripping on the hair and will avoid excessive shedding caused by rough brushing. Brushing from root to tip should always be avoided!
