Trimming Your Own Hair: Bangs
The other day, we discussed the basics of trimming your own hair. Now, it’s time to focus on one specific part that we know plenty of people are curious to experiment on: trimming your own bangs!
Trimming your own bangs is not that different from trimming the rest of your hair, but trimming bangs can be a bit trickier for two main reasons. One, it usually requires more precision and accuracy than other parts of your hair. Two, if you mess up your bangs, it’s definitely going to be more obvious, as it’s right there in the middle of your face.
Here are a couple of tips to ensure that you trim your bangs correctly!
1. Use sharp scissors
Just like with the rest of your hair, it’s imperative that you use razor-sharp scissors when trimming your own bangs. There’s an art when it comes to learning how to cut your own bangs, and it starts with the right tools. Remember, your bangs are the most visible part of your hair, so you better make sure that you’re using extra special precision when trimming it!
2. Keep your hair damp
This is one of the most important tips when it’s time to trim your own bangs: Always trim your hair when it’s damp. Not only is it easier to cut, it also minimises the damages caused to your hair. One added bonus to trimming your own bangs when it’s wet is that it makes it easier to cut your bangs straight.
3. Section off the bang area
If this is your first time to trim your own bangs, it would help you immensely if you can section off the entire bang area. To do this, you can first create a center part in the middle of your bang. You can then create a small triangular section of hair using the two diagonal partings at either side of the part.
4. Use a fine-toothed comb to lift your hair
Once this step is done, it’s time to start cutting! But first, get a fine-toothed comb and bring all of your hair forward, lifting off the strands from your forehead. You can then trim the hair this way, starting from the ends and cutting into the hair using tiny points. This method is called point-cutting and it’s especially useful when you’re cutting smaller areas of hair, like bangs.
5. Cut little by little
You might be tempted to just cut everything off in one single snip, but fight the urge to do that! Telling yourself to cut little by little helps you avoid more mistakes along the way, and it also reminds you to be more careful with every snip. Besides, we’ve all heard horror stories from those girls who cut their own bangs too short, so unless you want the same fate to fall unto you, better err on the side of caution!
See, trimming your own bangs doesn’t have to be so hard! Now that you know how to trim your own bangs, it’s time to put these tips into action. If you do follow these tips, you’ll certainly be able to trim your bangs – and the rest of your hair – perfectly in no time at all!
