Mythbusters: Is Avocado Oil Good For Hair?
Also known as the alligator pear for its dry, coarse skin, avocados have slowly risen to become one of the modern world's healthy superfoods.
In terms of health benefits, avocados can offer a wide range, including the ability to maintain your body's healthy glucose levels and even to help you maintain your weight. One serving of avocados is already enough to fulfill 27% of your daily recommended fiber intake, which helps greatly in keeping you feel full for a longer period of time.
But other than that, did you know that avocados can also help give you shiny, lovely hair? In today's ZALA Mythbusters, we'll discuss if the rumors are really true: is avocado oil good for hair?
How Is Avocado Oil Made
Avocado oil is usually made from the extracts of the avocado fruit pulp. It's pressed cold from the avocado's own flesh, the fattiest and oiliest part of the entire fruit.
In fact, avocado flesh can actually consist of up to 30% oil, which means that there's definitely a lot of oil that can be used here, whether it's for your hair or for cooking purposes.
Believe it or not, avocado oil is also used for cosmetic products since this kind of oil gets easily absorbed by the skin.
The Benefits Of Avocado Oil For Hair
As mentioned above, avocado oil has plenty of uses, including for hair care.
- Moisturizes your hair. Avocado oil penetrates your strands and moisturizes them deeply.
- Prevents hair breakage. Since avocado oil contains a lot of fats, it can strengthen your hair shafts and also prevent hair breakage.
- Weighs light on your strands. Even fine-haired girls can make use of avocado oil since it doesn't weigh down on your strands. The problem of using most oils is that they're usually too heavy, which can make an already dull and limp hair much worse than before.
- Moisturizes the scalp. Avocado oil doesn't just moisturize your strands, it also provides much-needed moisture to your scalp. Like we've mentioned previously in this article, avocado oil is also easily absorbed by your dermis, so that's definitely a plus.
- Protects your hair from UV rays. Avocado oil has vitamin E, which not only helps repair and protect your hair but also mitigates the damages caused by the sun's UV rays.
- Aids in hair follicle generation. Vitamin D is another nutrient in avocado oil, and this can help in the generation of healthy hair follicles. This, in turns, promotes healthy hair growth.
- Helps treat dandruff. Avocado oil may not be the main treatment for dandruff, but its nourishing properties can help greatly in reducing those nasty flakes.
